The partners are pleased to announce that Michelle Almeida has joined the firm’s Poughkeepsie office as an associate attorney. Michelle concentrates her practice in the areas of business and corporate law, commercial real estate, health care, and liquor licensing. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) from Marist College, where she was inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice honor society. While in college, Michelle also completed an internship with the United States Secret Service in New York City. She received her law degree from New York Law School and is licensed to practice law in both New York and Connecticut. Before joining the Iseman firm, Michelle practiced law for seven years with two other Poughkeepsie area firms.
Michelle has been a featured speaker at various business-related seminars, including a continuing legal education seminar sponsored by the National Business Institute for New York attorneys entitled “LLC Trends and Developments.” She is the author of “Paying Attention to Justice: The FCC and the Failure to Deregulate,” published in the New York Law School Media Law & Policy Journal.
Michelle is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Dutchess County Bar Association and the Mid-Hudson Women’s Bar Association. She also has volunteered her time on cases for Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.
Michelle is active in her community. She currently sits on the boards of directors of two local non-profit organizations. She has been a board member of the Dutchess County SPCA since 2005, and she is now second vice president of the board and co-chair of the Capital Campaign Committee. Earlier this year, Michelle was asked to serve on the board of directors of The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie and is also a member of the organization’s Finance Committee. The Children’s Home is a community-based, non-profit agency dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk children and their families in the Hudson Valley region.
Michelle was a recipient of the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce “Forty Under 40 Shaker Award” in 2009. Award recipients are chosen by a committee for their career accomplishments, professional expertise and community involvement.
Michelle is fluent in Portuguese, her first language.
