ICRH Supports Local Charities
The firm’s Albany staff members decided several years ago to discontinue their “Secret Santa” buying for each other at the holidays, and donate to a local charity instead. This year’s recipient was Equinox, Inc., a volunteer organization that provides assistance to individuals and families to help them make positive and lasting changes in their lives. The ICRH staff solicited a holiday wish list for the children in the Equinox Youth Services Programs, and then purchased and delivered gifts, including stop watches, basketballs, games, dominoes, yarn, toys and other items to be given as holiday gifts to those who might otherwise have none. In addition to the staff donation to Equinox, the attorneys and staff in the firm’s Albany and Poughkeepsie offices supported Toys for Tots, the Mohawk and Hudson Humane Society (Albany) and Dutchess County SPCA (Poughkeepsie). The Poughkeepsie office also collected food and monetary donations for a “Stuff the Bus” program sponsored by a local radio station to benefit area food pantries.
ICRH Sponsors Annual Holiday Kick-Off Event to Benefit St. Peter’s Hospital
Associates Marc Antonucci and Michael Deyo attended the annual Holiday Kick-Off event hosted by St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation on November 25. ICRH was a sponsor of the event and is proud of its longstanding relationship as counsel to St. Peter’s Hospital. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Cornerstone Campaign, which will help complete the hospital’s master facility plan. This project will add, replace, or renovate more than 500,000 square feet of diagnostic and clinical treatment space at the hospital. Partner Joshua Mackey was presented with the President’s Award at the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators (NSPII) annual conference held on November 14, 2011 in Chicago. Partner James Lagios and Associate Marc Antonucci attended the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany’s Fourth Annual Red, White & Chocolate Celebration on November 10th to support the clubs and to honor the recipients of the clubs’ 2011 Community Impact Awards. Jim Lagios also was recognized at the event for his service to the clubs. ICRH Partner Participates in Regional ABA Negotiation Competition
Partner Richard Frankel served as a judge for the American Bar Association (ABA) Law Student Division Regional Negotiation Competition on November 12, 2011, which took place at Albany Law School. The ABA Competition promotes greater interest among law students in legal negotiation and provides a means for them to practice and improve their negotiating skills. The first place team from each regional competition will advance to the national finals. Rich Frankel is also an adjunct professor at Albany Law School, where he teaches a course on real estate transactions.
ICRH Associate Attends Defense Research Institute Annual Meeting
Associate Frank Izzo attended the Defense Research Institute (DRI) annual meeting which was held October 26 -30 in Washington, D.C. Speakers included former President Bill Clinton and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. DRI is an international organization of attorneys working to defend the interests of businesses and individuals in civil litigation. Frank is a member of DRI’s Lawyers’ Professionalism and Ethics Committee and the Young Lawyers’ Committee, which also held meetings at the event. ICRH Partner Attends New York State Bar Association Labor and Employment Section Meeting
Partner Brian Culnan attended the fall meeting of the Labor and Employment Section of the NYS Bar Association from September 23-24, 2011 in Saratoga Springs. Topics discussed at plenary sessions included trade secret litigation, whistle-blowing claims under Dodd-Frank and Sarbanes-Oxley, and managing media coverage of a case.
As the head of the firm's Labor and Employment practice group, Brian focuses primarily on complex commercial litigation and labor and employment disputes.

ICRH Partner Named State Chair for NY Council on Litigation Management
Partner Joshua Mackey has been selected to be one of the New York State chairs for the Council on Litigation Management (CLM). As a state chair, Josh will assist in the development and growth of CLM, as well as establish and monitor CLM strategic affiliations for state and local organizations and associations.
CLM is a nonpartisan alliance of thousands of insurance companies, corporations, general counsel, risk managers, claims adjusters and attorneys. ICRH Attorneys Speak at Healthcare Financial Management Association Seminar on Corporate Compliance
Partners Carol Hyde and Karen Sosler, along with Associates Michael Deyo and Rachel Ryan, spoke at a seminar on corporate compliance sponsored by the northeast chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). The seminar was held on September 22, 2011, at The Edison Club in Rexford, NY, and focused on various regulations governing the employment of physicians by hospitals, as well as practical solutions to reducing the legal and financial risks posed by non-compliance. Carol Hyde discussed hospital-owned physician practices, and Rachel Ryan spoke about Stark law compliance and the new self-disclosure protocol. Later in the session, Karen Sosler’s presentation covered physician compliance with Medicare requirements for ordered ambulatory services, and Mike Deyo provided information on best practices for avoiding costly privacy breaches. Josh’s article discussed the recent formation of a NSPII New York Chapter, of which he serves as president. Associate Omer Gil was named vice president of the board of directors of Rebuilding Together Dutchess County (RTDC). Prior to being named to his current position, Omer was a member of RTDC’s board of directors for two years. Partner Rich Frankel participated in the 12th Annual Visionary Golf Tournament to benefit the Northeastern Association of the Blind (NABA) on September 12. Richard Mitchell Presents at NYS Society of CPAs Health Care Conference
Partner Richard Mitchell spoke at a conference sponsored by the NYS Society of Certified Professional Accountants (NYSSCPA), which was held in New York City on September 21, 2011. The day-long conference provided an update on the status of health care reform and focused on accounting, legal and practice management issues. The conference is designed for accounting and finance professionals who work in the health care field, as well as providers of health care services. ICRH Associate Chosen for Leadership Tech Valley Class of 2011-2012
Marc Antonucci, an associate of the firm, is one of forty individuals from the Capital Region selected to participate in this year’s Leadership Tech Valley Program. Leadership Tech Valley is a joint initiative of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber and the Chamber of Schenectady County. The nine-month program begins with an opening retreat in September and will conclude with graduation in June of 2012. Robert Iseman to Present at Health Care Trustees Annual Conference
Partner Robert Iseman spoke at the annual conference of the Health Care Trustees of New York State, held at The Sagamore on Lake George from September 16-18. The conference focused on board leadership and was designed for health care trustees and executives who are on the front lines of the ever-changing health care environment. Mr. Iseman’s session included practical and directive advice on how trustees can provide legally sufficient board oversight of a hospital’s financial arrangements with physicians. ICRH Attorneys Attend Annual Meeting of American Health Lawyers Association
Partners Robert Iseman and Marcia Smith, accompanied by Associate Linda Terner, attended the 2011 American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) annual meeting held June 27 – 29 in Boston, MA. The educational program included breakout sessions on current health care topics delivered by leading private practitioners, in-house counsel and government representatives. Additionally, the annual meeting provides a forum for networking and interaction among the members of the national health care bar. ICRH was recognized again this year in the AHLA top honors list for the number of firm attorneys who are members of the AHLA.
The American Health Lawyers Association provides a forum for interaction and information exchange among members of the health care bar, which enables them to serve their clients more effectively with respect to current health law issues.
ICRH Partner Appointed to Albany Devils Fan Advisory Board
John Queenan has been appointed to the Fan Advisory Board of the American Hockey League’s Albany Devils. The Albany Devils are an affiliate of the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils.
The Albany Devils Fan Advisory Board is a committee of hockey fans who provide their experience and opinions to the team to help improve the overall fan experience. The Board meets monthly to share ideas about how to promote the growth and development of Devils hockey in the Capital Region. The goals of the committee are to help the team better understand the needs and wants of the local fan base, and to improve the quality of service and entertainment at the Times Union Center, where the team plays its games.

Partner Marcia Smith attended the sixth annual golf outing hosted by The Long Island Home, operator of South Oaks Hospital and Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Partner John Queenan attended the 2011 Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) “Professional Risk Symposium” in Chicago, IL this past March. This year’s symposium focused on outlining and discussing the emerging liabilities regarding privacy and data security risks for professionals and their patients/clients. A large part of the symposium was dedicated to informing the audience about the increased usage of computer networks and the Internet by professionals and the dangers associated with each.

ICRH Attorneys to Attend Adirondack Medical Center Gala
ICRH attorneys Carol Hyde, Rick Mitchell, Marcia Smith, Karen Sosler and Rachel Ryan attended the Adirondack Medical Center’s Centennial Gala, celebrating 100 years of health care service in the Adirondacks. The firm is also one of the sponsors of the event. The gala was held on Saturday, July 9, on the grounds of the historic Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake, New York. The Centennial Gala celebrates the 100th anniversary of the General Hospital of Saranac Lake and the 20th anniversary of the merger of Placid Memorial Hospital and General Hospital of Saranac Lake, which created Adirondack Medical Center.

John Queenan, chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, has been appointed to the executive committee of the board of directors for the National Alumni Association of Albany Law School. John has been a member of the board since 2002. The purposes of the alumni association are to represent the alumni of Albany Law School through activities of the school at the administrative level, and through the involvement of members of the alumni association in various school functions. Penny Hahn, an associate in the firm’s Poughkeepsie office, has been elected to the board of directors of the Mid-Hudson Women's Bar Association, and will serve as recording secretary for the 2011-2012 term. The Mid Hudson Women's Bar Association includes Dutchess and Ulster counties, and is a chapter of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York. ICRH Partner Serves as Judge for Statewide Mock Trial Tournament
John Queenan recently served as a judge for the New York State Annual Statewide Mock Trial Tournament for public and non-public high schools. This statewide competition is sponsored by the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Citizenship Education and its Law, Youth and Citizen Program (LYC), and was held at the County Family Court Building in Albany, NY.

ICRH Associate Speaks at National Health Care Decisions Day Event
Laurie Chisolm, an associate in the firm’s Albany office, recently spoke to 40 attendees of an adult day-care program at Guildcare in Albany. Laurie was a representative of the NYS Bar Association Elder Law Section on the topic of advance care planning. The program was offered in conjunction with National Health Care Decisions Day. Topics discussed included health care proxies, living wills, do-not-resuscitate orders (DNRs), the recently enacted Family Health Care Decisions Law, and powers of attorney. Laurie repeated the presentation at Providence Hall Apartments in Hudson, NY, on May 18.
ICRH Associate Reappointed to NYSBA House of Delegates
Rachel Ryan, an associate in the firm's Albany office, was reappointed for a second time to the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates as a member representing persons of racial and ethnic diversity. Her new term will run from June 1, 2011, through May 31, 2012. Over the past year, Rachel has helped the House of Delegates consider important issues, including government ethics reform, tort reform and the future of the legal profession. The work of the House of Delegates is instrumental in furthering the bar association’s mission of increasing diversity in the association and its governing bodies.

Partner Josh Mackey and his wife were appointed to the event committee for an open house at the Cary Institute of Ecosystems Studies which took place in Millbrook, NY, on May 23, 2011. There were hands-on educational activities for children and adults, as well as an informal lunch to help educate community members about the work performed by Cary IES. Founded in 1983 by the eminent ecologist Dr. Gene E. Likens, the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is a recognized leader in applying the ecosystem approach to some of society's most pressing problems, and is one of the largest ecological programs in the world. NSPII’s New York Chapter and IAAI to Partner for Joint Event in New York
The National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators’ (NSPII) newly formed New York Chapter partnered with the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) to present an educational session entitled, “Strengthening Relationships Between Public and Private Sector Fire Investigators & Addressing Ethical Considerations,” held in Jamaica, New York, on June 28. ICRH hosted the initial gathering of NSPII members interested in forming a New York Chapter at its Poughkeepsie office on September 14, 2010. NSPII is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering investigative ideas, procedures and techniques. The organization sponsors annual, national and regional seminars, publishes a newsletter, and conducts regular meetings to inform and develop professionals in the areas of insurance fraud recognition, prevention and investigation. ICRH Supports Relay for Life
ICRH fielded a team for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Fishkill, New York on June 17, 2011. Team leaders Omer Gil, Penny Hahn and John Queenan attended the “kick off” event on March 30, 2011 and hope to best last year’s fundraising efforts.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
ICRH Attorney to Present Webinar on Electronic Discovery
Michael Deyo, an associate in the firm’s Albany office, will join a distinguished panel of speakers for the Primerus webinar series, “Practical Guidance for Navigating E-Discovery Challenges.” The two-part webinar series will be held on July 12, 2011 at 11:30 am EDT and July 19, 2011 at 11:30 am EDT. This educational program will offer practical insights and best practices for addressing the complex issues surrounding e-discovery, including proactive business planning to manage e-discovery burdens, and strategies for cost-effective preservation, collection, review and production of electronically stored information (ESI). ICRH Associate receives Dutchess County “Forty under 40” award
On March 14, 2011, Associate Omer Gil was among the honorees at the sixth annual “Forty under 40” Shaker Awards hosted by the Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce. The event recognizes the accomplishments of those under the age of 40 who display excellence in both their professional and personal lives. Omer serves as the co-chair of the advisory committee for United Way of Dutchess County Young Leaders United. The mission of Young Leaders United is to support the work of United Way of Dutchess County and foster a spirit of community involvement among the next generation of leaders. It is their goal to inspire advocacy, philanthropy and volunteerism in Dutchess County.
ICRH Associate Appointed As Court Evaluator
Associate Laurie Chisolm was recently appointed by Judge Michael Lynch to serve as court evaluator in a guardianship proceeding pending in Albany County. A court evaluator is appointed by the judge to act as an impartial investigator gathering facts about the person alleged to be incapacitated. The court evaluator issues a report to the court and makes a recommendation as to whether or not a guardian should be appointed, and if so, what powers should be granted.
ICRH associates judge Hagan Elementary School Science Fair
As part of a commitment to community service, on March 8, Penny Hahn and Frank Izzo, associates in the firm’s Poughkeepsie office, served as volunteer judges for the fifth grade class of Hagan Elementary School’s 2011 Science Fair. The students who received top honors participated in the 52nd annual Dutchess County Science Fair on April 2, 2011. The science fair is designed to stimulate students’ interest in science and engineering, provide an educational experience by exposing students to the judging process and other exhibits, and recognize talented students for the work they have done.
ICRH Partner attends PDI Transportation Seminar
Partner James Lagios attended the 2011 Primerus Defense Institute Transportation Seminar in Dallas, Texas held on February 10-11. The seminar gathered experts, attorneys, and in-house counsel with experience in legal issues related to transportation and logistics companies. Seminar topics included transportation cases from the plaintiff’s perspective and negligent hiring and retention claims. More than 30 other Primerus members and representatives from 24 of the top transportation companies in the U.S. also attended the seminar.

Partners James Lagios and John Queenan attended the 2011 Professional Liability Underwriting Society D&O Symposium on February 2-3 in New York City. This year’s symposium focused on emerging topics in the directors and officers liability insurance field, including trends in securities litigation, current coverage issues, and a review of key regulatory issues. The symposium was attended by more than 1,200 attorneys involved in the D&O practice area.
ICRH Partner Participates in PAL event
On January 20, 2011, Partner John Queenan participated in mock interviews of the Albany Police Athletic League’s Youth Counsel (“YLC”) members.
The Albany Police Athletic League (“PAL”), Inc. is a juvenile crime prevention program that brings kids and cops together in non-law enforcement settings. PAL accomplishes its goals by providing numerous educational, recreational, and athletic programs to more than 4,000 Albany youth each year. PAL seeks to provide a safe haven for the youth of Albany in their after-school hours. PAL kids are offered mentoring and understanding through the help of Albany police officers, PAL staff, community volunteers, and interns. PAL is dedicated to providing kids, especially the most underserved, with the support and skills they will need to journey towards a brighter future.
The YLC is a youth-run community service-based group. Through motivational speakers, conferences and hands-on projects, the YLC provides members with skills to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Associate Joins Board of Directors of Common Ground Farm.
Associate Penny Hahn was recently elected to the board of directors of Common Ground Farm (“CGF”). CGF is a not-for-profit farm project that serves the community as an educational model for people of all ages to learn how foods grow, how to raise ecologically sound crops without harmful chemicals, and how to keep farmland healthy for generations to come. As a working farm, CGF strives to interpret a new agricultural experience and tradition that is a precious part of our nation's heritage.
