Ms. Smith practices in the health care area and has extensive
experience handling regulatory, corporate and transactional
matters for a wide range of health care clients, including
health care systems, hospitals, physicians and insurers.
She has significant experience in the areas of corporate
compliance, tax-exempt financing, Medicare and Medicaid
billing matters, tax exemption, and regulatory affairs.
Ms. Smith is admitted before the courts of New York and
the United States District Court for the Northern District
of New York. She is a member of the New York State and Albany
County Bar Associations, American Health Lawyers Association,
and Capital District Women’s Bar Association.
Ms. Smith has lectured to health care provider trade associations
on various topics, including medical records and confidentiality,
fraud and abuse, and antitrust issues involving multi-provider
networks.
Ms. Smith earned her Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude)
from the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis/St. Paul,
where she was invited to join Phi Beta Kappa upon graduation.
She then served as an officer in the United States Navy.
While serving in the Navy, she was selected to serve on
the staff of a four-star admiral. Ms. Smith left the admiral’s
staff after five years, during which time she achieved the
rank of lieutenant. She then worked as a research associate
at a federally funded research and development center and
as a program analyst for the U.S. Department of Energy before
attending law school.
Ms. Smith received her law degree (summa cum laude)
from Albany Law School of Union University. While at
law school, Ms. Smith was awarded the James T. Fiero and
William McKinley Scholarships and served as a member of
the Albany Law Review. After graduating from law school,
Ms. Smith practiced with the law firm of Whiteman, Osterman
& Hanna before joining Iseman, Cunningham, Riester &
Hyde, LLP, as an associate attorney. |
